Retirement can be a bittersweet thing. On the one hand, it is the thing we all strive toward throughout our working life. The earlier we can do it the better we tend to tell ourselves. But on the other hand that is a lifetime of relationships, achievements, memories, that you are leaving behind when you retire. Not to mention, with all that added free time it can be daunting to walk into a whole new life without knowing how you are going to fill the days up.

But, it still all comes better when you get to the retirement party – and it gets better still when you have the catering of Hog Roast Southminster for such an occasion, too. The retirement party is the ultimate celebration of a lifetime of achievements. It is a celebration of you, and all of those past memories and relationships forged in the hustle and bustle of your career. It’s the moment, when all is said and done and you can finally slow down, to look back and see everyone and everything all at once in one big final celebration.

This past week the Hog Roast Southminster team were privileged to be able to cater for Yahn, who is walking away from his career at the spritely age of 60. Yahn took a bit of encouragement to walk away from his career, mostly because he is worried about getting bored sitting at home, but with the opportunity to retire early he eventually relented. Having enjoyed Hog Roast Southminster throughout his career at work, he brought us in to cater for his final goodbye with all of colleagues, past and present. If retiring seemed difficult at first, it certainly went much easier once Yahn saw our hog roast buffet there to send him off!
It was an incredible evening for the wonderful man. There were speeches from past colleagues and bosses of Yahn, as well as a tear filled one from the man himself. For our part, we made sure to have a great buffet ready for the 150 odd guests in attendance, plus extra servings for Yahn himself to take away home. After all, he’ll need something to tide him over in retirement now!
