The Only Way Is South Essex… well that’s what we think here at Hog Roast Witham. We all know that South Essex is famous for jam and TOWIE, amongst other things…but our county has so much more to offer. Such as the Southend Pier (at 1.33 miles long, is the longest pleasure pier in the world), Blackwater Estuary National Nature Reserve (home to some amazing wildlife including rare native oysters, hen harrier and crabs) or Prittlewell Priory (found in the 12th century by monks). We are made up of five districts, and here at Hog Roast Witham, we’ll travel from Basildon to Southend on Sea and everywhere in between.
Basildon
Burnham-on-Crouch
Canewdon
Corringham
Courtsend
Hadleigh
Langdon Hills
North Fambridge

Southend on Sea is one of the very few seaside resorts which has seen a rise in tourists since the 70s, and we know this rise is from our amazing rides at Adventure Island, beautiful ruins at Hadleigh Castle, cute otters at Sea Life Adventure and bespoke menus from Hog Roast Witham. Southend on Sea isn’t the only town that has seen a rise of population, Basildon is home to around 185,000 people, but take yourselves back to around 70 years and Basildon didn’t even exist! In 1949, Basildon was officially declared to be one of the new towns built to rehome Londoners whose homes were destroyed in the Blitz. Basildon has also created some great sporting legends such as snooker superstar Stuart Bingham, five-time Olympic gymnast Max Whitlock and they still train in Basildon with its Sporting Village nearby.
There’s definitely something in the water with the amount of celebrities coming out of and living in South Essex, such as model David Gandy, born in Billericay who was featured in Dolce & Gabbana adverts. Matthew Bayton, born in Southend on Sea, featured as an actor on Horrible Histories and Frank Lampard, born in Romford, who is an English professional football manager and former player for Premier League Club Chelsea. As counties go, Essex has one of the most distinct accents, with such phrases as ‘Well Jel’ (extremely jealous), ‘Muggy’ (someone who insults people) and of course one of the most famous phrases started by the famous Joey Essex ‘Reem’ meaning brilliant, good, cool or fashionable.
Here at Hog Roast Witham we’ll happily travel to each and every town listed above. Even if your event happens to be in The Golden Lion Pub in Romford famously haunted by seven spirits! Just give us a call or send us an email and we will do our best to make sure we can get our scrumptious food to your location, we’ll even deal with hungry ghosts if we have to!
